What is Google Topics?

Topics API is Google’s third-party cookie alternative, a part of its Privacy Sandbox initiative. Topics will enable advertisers to serve ads based on user’s interests without using third-party cookies.

Topics work by analysing a user’s browsing behaviour on Chrome i.e. the types of content and websites they visit and maintain a list of user interest categories (called Topics). When a user visits a website, it will run a code to fetch a list of up to three topics relevant to that website from the user’s past interests. Then a targeted ad is shown to that user.

Privacy Sandbox is now available on Chrome by default. You can manage your Ad Topics on Chrome > Settings > Privacy and security > Ad Topics
