What is cookie consent?

Cookie consent refers to the provision to obtain a website visitor’s consent for dropping cookies on their browser. It is a legal requirement under privacy laws such as the GDPR in the EU and UK, LGPD Brazil, POPIA South Africa and many data privacy laws across the world.

Cookie banners or notices are displayed on a user’s first visit to a website to obtain their permission before placing any cookies on their devices. For cookie consent to be GDPR compliant, the consent has to be freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous indication of the user’s wishes given through a clear affirmative action, as per Article 4 of the GDPR.
