What is cookieless pings?

Cookieless pings are signals sent to Google servers that communicate user activity and consent state without relying on cookies when a user has not granted consent for them. Cookieless pings contain only functional information, excluding any personally identifiable details.

Cookieless pings are a key component of Google Consent Mode and conversion modeling. They help to mitigate data collection gaps when users deny consent to cookies by enabling behavioral modeling in Google Analytics and Google Ads.

Types of cookieless pings:

  • Consent state pings: Communicates the default and updated consent state for different consent types (e.g., ad_storage, analytics_storage).
  • Conversion pings: Indicates that a conversion has occurred.
  • Google Analytics pings: Triggered on page load and when events are logged on a page where Google Analytics is implemented.
