What is Google Consent Mode?

Google Consent Mode is a new API developed to help websites use Google Products along with cookie consent management platforms (CMP). Consent mode allows websites to effectively monitor user behaviour and track conversions while complying with privacy regulations, especially related to cookie usage.

Consent Mode is supported on the following Google products:

  • Google Ads
  • Google Analytics
  • Floodlight
  • Conversion Linker

If you implement Google’s Consent Mode, it will only set cookies depending on the consent given by the user via the CMP. It is done through Google Tag Manager and does not require complex tag snippets or conditions.

Here’s how you can implement Google Consent Mode using CookieYes.

Recently Google announced Consent Mode v2 to comply with the Digital Markets Act. From March 2024, all websites using Google Ads to target EU regions will be required to use this updated version.

If you’re already utilizing consent mode using CookieYes, here’s how you can upgrade to Consent Mode v2.
