How Microsoft Clarity consentv2 affects tracking in the EEA and UK?
Clarity requires a valid consent signal via ConsentV2 for page visits originating from the EEA, UK, and Switzerland starting October 31, 2025.
If consent is granted for ad_storage and analytics_storage, Clarity sets cookies and enables full tracking functionality, including session persistence and detailed analytics features.
If consent is denied, Clarity:
- Deletes any existing tracking cookies.
- Ends the current session.
- Enters no-consent mode with no cookies and limited tracking by assigning a unique ID per page view with no session persistence.
- Maintains no-consent mode on subsequent visits until consent is provided again.
The default state assumes consent is denied until changed explicitly by user action.
This mechanism ensures compliance with GDPR and UK GDPR by respecting user privacy preferences and limiting tracking if consent is not given.
Starting 31 October, 2025, Microsoft Clarity will enforce consentv2 signal requirements in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland.
