Does GDPR require consent for cookies?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requires websites to obtain a user’s consent before cookies are set on their devices. As cookies can collect and store information, they are categorized as online identifiers, a part of personal data. According to GDPR, consent is a lawful basis for processing any personal data. Hence, GDPR requires consent for cookies. If your website is based in the EU, UK or has users from these regions, you must implement a cookie banner on your website and obtain prior consent.
