What is personal information under CCPA?

As per CCPA, personal information is any information related to California consumers that can be used directly or indirectly to identify them.

The Act defines personal information as “that identifies, relates to, describes, is reasonably capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular consumer or household.

E.g. name, social security number, email address, purchase records, browsing history, biometric data, geolocation, employee details, and any inferences from other personal information that could identify a consumer.

Personal information excludes publicly available information from federal, state or local government records.
