How to Enable and Configure AI Cookie Classifier in CookieYes

Last updated on April 27, 2026

Overview

The AI Cookie Classifier in CookieYes helps categorise uncategorized cookies detected during website scans. It analyses newly identified cookies and suggests an appropriate cookie category based on how the cookie is used on the website.

This helps maintain accurate cookie records, reduces manual categorisation effort, and keeps the cookie banner and cookie policy aligned with the website’s cookie usage.

When enabling the AI Cookie Classifier, the publishing behaviour can be configured to determine how AI-classified cookies are processed. The classifier applies only to cookies detected in future scans.

Note

The AI Cookie Classifier feature is available only on the Basic, Pro and Ultimate plans in CookieYes.

Prerequisites

Before enabling and configuring the AI Cookie Classifier in CookieYes, ensure the following requirements are met:

  • Active CookieYes account.
  • Website added to CookieYes: The website for which you want to enable AI cookie classification should already be added to your CookieYes dashboard.
  • Initial Cookie scan completed (recommended): Running an initial cookie scan helps detect cookies on your website and allows the AI classifier to categorise newly detected cookies in future scans.

  1. Log in to CookieYes.
  2. Click Cookie Manager from the top navigation menu.

Note

If you manage multiple domains, select your website from the top dropdown and navigate to Cookie Manager.

  1. On the Cookie Manager page, locate the AI Cookie Classifier panel on the right.
  2. Click Enable AI classifier.

    enable cookie classifier
  3. In the configuration modal, select one of the following publishing options:
Enable AI classifier

Option 1: Publish High-Confidence Cookies Automatically (Recommended)

In this mode, CookieYes automatically publishes cookies when the AI classifier detects them with a high confidence level. These cookies are immediately added to the appropriate category in your cookie list.

If the AI detects a cookie but the confidence level is lower, the cookie is not published automatically. Instead, it is sent to the manual review queue(Uncategorised Category), where you can review the classification and decide whether to publish it.

Recommended for:
Most websites that want to reduce manual work while maintaining strong oversight for compliance.

Option 2: Publish All AI-Classified Cookies Automatically

In this mode, all cookies classified by AI are automatically published, regardless of the confidence level. Once detected in a scan, the cookies are immediately added to the appropriate category in your cookie list.

No manual review is required, which significantly reduces the time spent managing newly detected cookies. However, because cookies are published automatically, you may want to periodically review your cookie list to ensure the classifications align with your compliance requirements.

Recommended for:
Large or high-traffic websites where scans detect a high volume of cookies and full automation is preferred.

Option 3: Publish No AI-Classified Cookies Automatically

With this option, the AI Cookie Classifier still analyses and categorises detected cookies, but none of them are published automatically.

All cookies are sent to the Uncategorised section, where you can review the suggested classification. These cookies remain in the Uncategorised category until the category is manually confirmed or updated. After verifying the suggested classification, the cookie can be approved, edited or assigned to the appropriate category before publishing. This ensures full control over how cookies are categorised and displayed in the cookie banner and cookie policy.

Recommended for:
Organisations with strict compliance workflows, internal approval processes, or teams that require manual verification of every cookie classification.

4. After selecting your preferred option, click Enable AI Cookie Classifier.

Enable AI Cookie Classifier.

AI classification will begin processing cookies detected in future scans, ensuring new cookies are categorised according to the publishing workflow you selected.

Note

After enabling the AI classifier, run a new scan to allow CookieYes to detect and classify new cookies. See How to scan your website for cookies for detailed instructions.

Configure or Modify AI Classifier Settings?

You can update the AI Cookie Classifier configuration at any time to adjust how cookies are processed and published after a scan. This allows you to switch between different automation levels or disable the AI classifier based on your workflow or compliance requirements. To modify the AI classifier settings:

  1. Navigate to Cookie Manager.
  2. Locate the AI Cookie Classifier section.
  3. Click Configure AI Classifier.

After updating the AI classifier configuration, run a new cookie scan to apply the updated publishing behaviour to newly detected cookies. See How to scan your website for cookies for step-by-step instructions.

How to Identify AI-Classified Cookies

After a new cookie scan is completed, AI-classified cookies appear in the Cookie List within the Cookie Manager. These cookies include indicators that help you identify how the AI classified them and how confident the classification is. AI-classified cookies include the following indicators:

  • AI Classified label – Indicates that the cookie was categorised using the AI Cookie Classifier.
  • AI Confidence Level – Shows the confidence level of the AI classification, such as High, Moderate or Low.
  • AI Suggested Category – Displays the category recommended by the AI based on how the cookie behaves and how it is used on your website.

Conclusion

The AI Cookie Classifier simplifies cookie management by automatically categorising newly detected cookies during website scans. By reducing manual effort and improving classification accuracy, it helps maintain an organised cookie list and ensures that cookie categories remain aligned with the website’s cookie usage.

The classifier can be enabled from the Cookie Manager, where publishing behavior can be configured and AI-classified cookies can be reviewed after each scan before updating the cookie banner.
