Integrating Microsoft Clarity Consent API with Shopify via CookieYes

This guide outlines how to integrate the Microsoft Clarity Consent API with your Shopify store via the CookieYes WebApp. By syncing these tools, you ensure Clarity tracking only activates after users grant permission through the CookieYes banner. This setup automates privacy compliance and protects your store’s data integrity while respecting Shopify’s global consent standards.

CookieYes communicates user consent choices to Microsoft Clarity through the Consent API. This ensures Clarity tracking scripts only activate after the required consent categories are accepted by the user.

• A CookieYes account.
• Administrator access to both your Shopify store and Microsoft Clarity.
• CookieYes is installed on your Shopify store with an active cookie banner.

Microsoft Clarity Consent API integration is enabled by default in CookieYes. If this integration is already enabled, you can skip this step. Otherwise, follow the instructions below to enable it.

You can enable Microsoft Clarity Consent API Integration in two ways — either from the CookieYes Shopify App or directly from the CookieYes WebApp.

Option 1: If you are accessing through the CookieYes Shopify App

1. Open the CookieYes App in Shopify.
2. Go to Advanced Settings.
   
   
3. Click the Enable button next to Microsoft Clarity Consent API Integration.
   
   

Option 2: If you are accessing through the CookieYes WebApp

1. Login to your CookieYes WebApp.
2. Select Advanced Settings from the top navigation bar.
   
   
3. Enable Microsoft Clarity Consent API Integration.
   
   

1. In your Shopify dashboard, go to Apps.
   
   
2. Search for Microsoft Clarity: AI Insights and choose Microsoft Clarity from the list.
   
   
3. Click Install.
   
   
4. Review the data access permissions and click Install.
   
   

You will be redirected to your Shopify dashboard upon successful installation.

Choose one of the following options to configure Clarity in Shopify based on your setup:

Option A: Create a new Clarity project

If you do not have an existing Clarity project outside of this setup, follow the below steps to configure Clarity.

1. Click Go to theme settings.
   
   
2. In App embeds, enable Clarity JS from the left panel and click Save.
   
   

Option B: Connect existing Clarity project

If you have already installed Clarity before setting up the app, you just need to connect your existing project by following the steps below.

1. Click Link my existing Clarity project to link your existing Clarity project to Shopify.
   
   
2. Provide your Clarity project ID and click Link Project.
   
   
3. Click Send configuration email under Microsoft Clarity.
   
   
4. In the email you receive, click APPROVE and sign in to Clarity to connect to the project.
   
   

Return to your Shopify dashboard and you should now see Microsoft Clarity installed in your Shopify store.

It may take a few hours before session data appears in your Clarity dashboard.

To confirm that Clarity is responding correctly to user consent:

1. Open your Shopify store in an incognito window.
2. Reject analytics cookies and confirm that Microsoft Clarity does not load.
3. Accept analytics cookies and confirm that Microsoft Clarity tracking starts.
4. Check the Microsoft Clarity dashboard or your browser’s developer tools to confirm that sessions are being recorded.
