# What is personal information under CCPA?

As per CCPA, **personal information is any information related to California consumers that can be used directly or indirectly to identify them.**
The Act defines personal information as "*that identifies, relates to, describes, is reasonably capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular consumer or household."*
E.g. name, social security number, email address, purchase records, browsing history, biometric data, geolocation, employee details, and any inferences from other personal information that could identify a consumer.
Personal information** excludes publicly available information from federal, state or local government records.**
