This guide walks through the full trial lifecycle: how it works, when payment is collected, when it converts to a paid subscription, and what happens if a payment fails or you cancel along the way. ## How the 30-day trial works Each site you add gets its own **30-day free trial**, whether you add one site or several in a single transaction. During the trial your site is fully functional, so you can install the consent banner and set it up for your client straight away. > **Note** > If you enable billing date alignment, a later phase may have a trial shorter than 30 days, since it bills on the shared date rather than 30 days after being added. After you add your sites and click **Start 30-day free trial**, you're shown a summary of the trial, your plans and pricing, and your first payment date. You then continue to Stripe to add the payment method, which is collected so the subscription can convert automatically when the trial ends. ## When the trial starts The trial begins as soon as the site is added and a payment method is confirmed. Over the following 30 days: - **Day 1**: Your trial starts. The site is fully functional, and no charge is made. - **Day 7**: A check-in email prompts you to complete setup if no banner is live yet (first batch of sites only). - **Day 21**: A reminder to review your sites ahead of billing. - **Day 27**: A final reminder confirming your first billing date. - **Day 30**: The trial ends. Your subscription becomes active once the first payment succeeds. ## When the trial converts to a paid subscription On your first billing date, the trial ends and converts to a paid subscription once the first charge succeeds, using the payment method on file. Your first phase sets the billing-cycle date and isn't prorated, while every later phase is prorated to the next shared renewal date regardless of alignment. You'll return to the Add sites page, where you can: - restart the trial by adding your payment details, or - exit to your dashboard and finish later. Your sites and plan selections aren't lost. > **Note** > If a payment method is added but a later charge fails, see[If a payment fails](http://cookieyes.com/documentation/agency-partner/agency-free-trial/#if-a-payment-fails). > ## If a payment fails If a payment cannot be processed, either when your trial converts or at a later renewal, your sites are not removed immediately. You have 60 days, across two stages, to resolve the issue. - **When payment fails**: Your consent banners stay live for 30 days, and you receive an email about the failed payment and the amount due. Retry the payment or update your payment method within that time to keep your sites active and avoid interruption. - **After 30 days unresolved**: Banners remain offline, and a further 30 days are provided to complete payment before the sites are removed. A reminder is sent at this stage, and again 7 days before removal. - **After 60 days unresolved**: The sites and all associated data, including banner settings, consent logs, and scan history, are permanently deleted. The sites can be added again at any time, but they are treated as new sites on a new trial. Your sites and data remain recoverable at any point before the final deletion date. Completing payment restores them in full. ## What happens when you cancel a trial You can cancel a site's trial at any time before it converts: - Cancelling doesn't take effect immediately. The site and its consent banner remain live through the rest of the trial period. When the trial period ends, the site is removed from your agency account and its banner is deactivated. - To keep the site, click **Reactivate trial** against it on the **View all websites** screen before the trial period ends. - If cancelling would drop your paid site count below a discount tier, you'll be warned first, with guidance on how to keep your current tier.
