Learn how to set up, enable, and use Staging Mode to test and customize your cookie banner in a development/ staging site. --- **Categories:** Banner Customization, Customization **Last updated:** June 2, 2025 **URL:** https://www.cookieyes.com/documentation/add-staging-site/ --- The **Staging** **Mode** feature in CookieYes allows users to set up and preview their cookie banner in a test environment. This feature is helpful for organizations that employ separate development / staging / production website environments specifically, as it enables thorough banner testing without impacting the live domain. Using the staging mode, you can validate your banner’s configuration and behaviour before making it accessible to live website visitors. > **Note:** > The feature to add a staging site is only available for sites with an **active** **Paid** **Plan** (Basic, Pro, Ultimate). > ## Setup Overview There are three main steps to set up a staging site. 1. Add Staging Site URL 2. Enable Staging Mode 3. Add CookieYes Installation Code ## Step 1: Add a Staging Site > **Note:** > You can only add one staging site per domain. > 1. In the CookieYes [Dashboard](https://app.cookieyes.com/dashboard?ref=CYM_mrkdwn), navigate to the **Profile** **icon** in the top-right corner and select **Organizations** **& Sites** from the drop-down. ![org and sites](https://assets.cookieyes.com/org_and_sites_75458785b7.png) 2. In the [**Organizations & Sites**](https://app.cookieyes.com/settings/organizations-and-sites?ref=CYM_mrkdwn) tab, click the **three-dot **menu against the required site and select **Add staging site** from the dropdown menu. ![add staging](https://assets.cookieyes.com/add_staging_a3658f4089.png) 3. In the modal, enter your **Staging site’s URL** in the provided field and click **Add**. ![site url add](https://assets.cookieyes.com/site_url_add_47585a4b65.png) 4. The staging site you added will appear in your organisation. Click **Manage** **Site** to navigate to your staging site’s dashboard. ![MANAGE SITE](https://assets.cookieyes.com/MANAGE_SITE_39a176b2da.png) ## Step 2: Enable Staging Mode In the top bar of your CookieYes Dashboard, switch the toggle button to the **right** to **enable** **Staging** **Mode**. You can use this toggle button to switch between your live website and staging site’s banner configurations. ![Toggle button](https://assets.cookieyes.com/Toggle_button_d1f8f3192e.png) ## Step 3: Add CookieYes Installation Code Click **Get Installation Code** to copy the CookieYes script for your staging site. Then, paste it immediately after your staging site’s opening ` `tag. ![Toggle button copy](https://assets.cookieyes.com/Toggle_button_copy_8d1c611d90.png) The CookieYes banner will now be active on your staging site. You can use this dashboard to [customise the cookie banner](https://www.cookieyes.com/documentation/customize-cookie-banner/) for your staging site further. ## Staging site settings You can change your Staging site’s URL, update the Site name, and delete the site as needed from the [Organizations & Sites](https://app.cookieyes.com/settings/organizations-and-sites?ref=CYM_mrkdwn) tab. ## Edit Staging site URL 1. Click on the **three-dot menu **to the right of the Staging site’s URL. 2. From the drop-down menu, select **Edit site URL**. 3. In the modal, enter the updated URL in the required field. 4. Click on the **three-dot** **menu** to the right of the Staging site’s URL. 2. Select **Edit site name** from the drop-down menu. 3. Click on the **three-dot menu **to the right of the Staging site’s URL. 2. From the drop-down menu, select **Delete** **site**. 3.
